Australian Government Solicitor wins Pro Bono Law Award

Geetha Nair, National Manager, Pro Bono Services, Australian Government Solicitor.

PIAC is delighted to congratulate the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) on winning the Australian Law Pro Bono Award at the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.

AGS has been a major pro bono supporter of PIAC for many years, seconding lawyers and graduates into our team.

Since 2016 PIAC and the AGS have run a program to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander early-career lawyers. Through this initiative, PIAC provides mentoring and support for junior lawyers or graduates with an interest in social justice, as they work in our strategic litigation practice, Homeless Persons’ Legal Service and Indigenous Justice Program.

PIAC’s most recent Indigenous Secondees were Shantell Bailey and  Danielle Hobday.

‘This award is fitting recognition of the major contribution that AGS is making to pro bono. Congratulations to everyone involved, and we particularly thank Geetha Nair for her leadership in support of organisations like PIAC and the work we do to promote social justice,’ said PIAC CEO, Jonathon Hunyor.

The 19th annual Australian Law Awards (ALAs) were held on 9 August at The Star Sydney.
