Alan Kirkland has been a member of the PIAC Board since August 2008.

Alan was previously employed as the Chief Executive Officer of Legal Aid NSW; Executive Director of the Australian Law Reform Commission; Director, Community Access, with the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (NSW); and Director of the NSW Council of Social Service. He has been a member on the boards of a range of non-government organisations, including the Australian Council of Social Service; the Welfare Rights Centre, Sydney, and the Public Interest Law Clearinghouse.

Alan has also held statutory appointments to bodies including the Social Security Appeals Tribunal (Commonwealth), the Administrative Decisions Tribunal (NSW) and the Sustainability Advisory Council (NSW).
