Abstract

The Federal Government launched ‘Australia’s Human Rights Framework’ in 2010, in response to the national inquiry into human rights protection. The Framework describes how the Government intends to protect and promote human rights in Australia.  The Framework includes a commitment to develop a National Human Rights Action Plan that describes future action to fulfill its human rights objectives. To assist in the recognition of potential gaps and negative human rights experiences which could be addressed in the National Human Rights Action Plan, the Federal Government released the draft National Human Rights Baseline Study. 

This Submission is in response to the draft National Human Rights Baseline Study and provides detail on the current levels of human rights protection in Australia, and action items that should be addressed under the National Human Rights Action Plan.
