Abstract

Rough living

Rough Living is a research report commissioned by the Public Interest Advocacy and produced by Dr Catherine Robinson. Rough Living adopts a ‘life-history’ approach, using interviews with 12 individuals who were sleeping rough in the Sydney Region. The report reveals the considerable links between homelessness, violence and trauma and details how a range of services (including specialist homeless services) did not understand nor seek to address the trauma experienced by these individuals. The report also examines the impact of this service failure on the individuals and calls for services to become ‘trauma informed’.
