PIAC challenges electricity networks spending plans

The Australian Energy Regulator is in the process of setting network prices, which will take effect from 1 July 2015. This may have a significant impact on consumers, as network costs make up around half of electricity bills and have been the main cause of the massive price rises we have seen in recent years.

At a recent public forum, consumer representatives, including PIAC, questioned senior executives from the NSW network businesses about their plans for new investment and their proposed borrowing costs.

Oliver Derum, Senior Policy Officer in PIAC’s Energy and Water Consumers’ Advocacy Program, later discussed the issue with ABC Radio’s PM

PIAC is preparing a submission to the AER, that will be available on our website in coming weeks. To find out more, or to view the proposed plans visit Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy. Submissions are open until 8 August.
