The NSW government is being asked to consider introducing a “social tariff” for electricity customers who have trouble paying their bills, as the state prepares for steep price rises.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre said on Tuesday that while energy rebates are available, longer term strategies were needed to ensure vulnerable households can afford to keep the power on.
