Access to legal procedures
In 2008, PIAC achieved a national first by obtaining a “costs cap” in a discrimination matter in the Federal Court in Corcoran v Virgin Blue Airlines Pty Ltd [2008] FCA 864.
These orders were made under the Federal Court Rules (Cth). This allowed PIAC’s clients to continue with the litigation knowing the maximum financial risk involved $15,000 and $35,000.
PIAC has since successfully achieved a cost capping order in Haraksin v Murrays Australia Ltd
