Energy + Water
PIAC is at the forefront of consumer advocacy for fair, transparent and sustainable provision of energy, gas and water.
Through the Energy + Water Consumers’ Advocacy Program (EWCAP), PIAC advocates for the interests of residential users of electricity, gas and water utilities.
The Energy + Water Consumers’ Advocacy Program (EWCAP) was established at PIAC as the Utilities Consumers’ Advocacy Program in 1998 with NSW Government funding.
The aim of the Program is to develop policy and advocate in the interests of low-income and other residential consumers in the NSW energy and water markets.
PIAC receives policy input to EWCAP from a community-based reference group.
PIAC aims to ensure that NSW utility services are accountable and sustainable, and to encourage consumer information and participation.
PIAC’s record:
- Over ten years representing the interests of residential energy and water consumers through our Energy + Water Consumers’ Advocacy Program
- With other community partners successfully advocated for the extension of eligibility of the NSW Energy Rebate for health care card holders
- Represented the Total Environment Centre in a successful complaint on green energy marketing.
